CM may write to Naidu on probe

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is likely to write a letter to the Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on the issue of inquiry into their assets since the day they entered politics in 1978.

Sources pointed out that the letter was expected to justify the grounds for constitution of a commission of inquiry by a retired High Court Judge as it was next to impossible to get a sitting judge in view of the Supreme Court’s observations.

When Mr. Naidu had expressed his desire to face probe by any authority, it is strange that now he is insisting on inquiry by a sitting judge alone, sources said.

They pointed out that the inquiry was into the alleged acquisition of wealth by two individuals and not into an issue pertaining to the Government.

The very purpose of constituting a commission will be futile if one person refuses to agree to a probe by a retired High Court judge, they added.

That was why a letter is being sent to the TDP president.

Dr. Reddy is likely to discuss the issue of constitution of a commission of inquiry on Monday with officials from the Law Department, Advocate General C. V. Mohan Reddy, his political advisor K. V. P. Ramchandra Rao and economic affairs advisor D.A. Somayajulu.
