India enters quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: India entered the football tournament quarterfinals in the fourth Military World Games here on Sunday after defeating Afghanistan 1-0 at the AOC ground. Nguruilal scored the lone goal for India in the fifth minute. Apart from India, the other countries which have entered the quarterfinals are Cameroon, Korea, Egypt, Guinea, Brazil, Qatar, and Ireland. The quarterfinal matches will be played from October 16 onwards at the AOC and EME grounds.

In a one-sided match on Sunday, tournament favourite Egypt beat Ireland 7-0. A. Bassyonia of Egypt netted two goals. Meanwhile, leading contender Qatar stunned Brazil 3-1. Anas Nasir (7th minute), Abdul Qadir Ilyas (67th) and Moussa Albaraka (77th) scored for the winner. Marcus scored for Brazil. At the MCME ground, Guinea Republic defeated Canada 4-0.
