VIZIANAGARAM: The Vizianagaram Chamber of Commerce has said that classification of non-residential buildings for enhancement of municipal taxes is wrong in majority of cases. “There are errors in the measurements mentioned in the notices,” said V.V. Kasi Viswanadham, president of Chamber of Commerce in a press release.
He said that due to road widening several buildings were demolished and their measurements reduced automatically. The age of buildings too was not assessed scientifically, he added. The municipality had not taken notice of the buildings partly for residential as well as commercial purposes on the main road at the time of tax assessment. He appealed to the Chief Minister that the process of tax enhancement must be an annual feature with an increase of five per cent every year instead of enhancing 150 per cent on the existing tax on buildings below 25 years of age and 100 per cent on over 25 years of age.
