CHENNAI: The Supreme Being’s incarnations exemplify His willingness to reach out to mankind to help them to experience His auspicious qualities and make their lives more sublime by showing them the path of dharma. Lord Krishna made it clear in the Bhagavad Gita that whenever there is a decline in the natural order of the Universe, whenever there is a rise in evil beyond limits, He manifests Himself. He adds that to protect the virtuous, to destroy evil and to establish “Dharma’ He recreates Himself in every Yuga. It is true that the Lord can achieve these ends without coming down; yet He, who is the embodiment of perfection, chooses to humble Himself in each incarnation to appear as fish, tortoise, boar, half-lion, dwarf, etc.,) to teach the imperfect Jivatmas the value of humility and the path to salvation. He chooses to come down and live amidst human beings to give them the reassurance that He is always with the righteous and is willing to live in physical proximity for this purpose, said Sri Lakshmi Nrisimhachary in a lecture. Nammazhwar has given the highest encomium to the incarnation of Lord Rama, moved by the Lord’s exemplary way of life as a human being to manifest all aspects of righteous living in the most comprehensive manner. Would anyone seek anything else except this Lord whose glory is supreme, who has promised succour to all those who seek Him? Sage Narada informed Sage Valmiki that Lord Rama who was born in the Ikshvaku dynasty and who was a fund of fine and sublime living was the perfect human being endowed with all the auspicious qualities — valour, power, knowledge, strength, brilliance, integrity, compassion, etc. Lord Rama showed how to rule a kingdom without compromising on dharma and also how to gain mastery over one’s senses and other emotions such as anger. He taught by His own example how to uphold dharma. He remained unruffled when the kingdom that was offered was taken away from Him. He vowed to treat anyone who created trouble for the Satvic Rishis as His own enemies. So He killed the Asuras even though they did no harm to Him personally.
