dated October 16, 1957: English as court language

Mr. Justice A.S.P. Aiyar of the Madras High Court on October 14 visited the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Mr. Aiyar met the members of the Advocates’ Association. He told them that English should continue to be the language of the High Courts and the Supreme Court for a long time to come. The regional languages could be used for purposes of administration in various States but it would cause a confusion if judgments were to be delivered in those languages in High Courts.
