IMPHAL: The army court of inquiry which looked into the charge of misdeeds, including detention of Manipur Health Minister Pheiroijam Parijat, against Major Nikhil Thakkar, the post commander of 7 Assam Rifles at Sagang in Bishnupur district, has found him guilty and sources said that he will be punished in such a way that his career will be affected. On July 18 the Health Minister and N. Mangi, MLA were returning from inspections of some hospitals when the Major had stopped them and their entourage. Scantily dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, the Major was heard using harsh words to the Minister to know why he was not informed of the visit. Reports in the local media said that the Major not only detained the elected members for sometime but also used words and body language which had offended one and all. The Minister has been maintaining that the police higher ups had informed of his visit to all security forces and police stations of the areas. In the meantime the Privilege Committee of the Manipur Assembly had also heard the privilege motion by Opposition member Okram Joy. Apart from taking strong objection to the misbehaviour of the Major, Mr. Joy had pointed out that since the Assembly session was due from July 31, the Minister and the MLA could not be detained.
