Letters to the Editor
The Nobel Committee’s decision to choose Al Gore for the Nobel Peace Prize is timely. It is a fitting reply to the Bush administration for its stand on the Kyoto protocol. If not taken seriously, global warming will wipe out life in many countries and islands in the present century itself. I hope the Nobel Peace will boost the campaign of Mr. Gore and the IPCC against global warming. V.P. Sreenivasan, Bangalore Though this was by no means a new discovery, it is to the credit of IPCC and Mr. Gore that they transformed global warming from a subject of academic discussion to a life-threatening issue in need of urgent attention. V. Venkatasubramanian, Mumbai Global warming and climate change have emerged as the biggest threats to the biosphere and life as we know it. It is here that the role of IPCC and Mr. Gore has assumed importance. They have pricked mankind’s collective conscience. It is their work that has brought the issue of climate change to centre-stage. The tipping point in the war against global warming might just have been reached. Hopefully, the problem will begin to be addressed now. A. Meghana, Hyderabad
