Madhya Pradesh
The event coincided with the anniversary of the historic conversion of Dalits to Buddhism ‘Leaders from UP would be touring Madhya Pradesh to build up the BSP’s support base’ BHOPAL: By organising a “Kshatriya Sammelan” (convention of Kashtriya community) here on Sunday, the Bahujan Samaj Party has set the ball rolling for mixing politics with “social engineering” in Madhya Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Minister Badshah Singh was the chief guest at the special Khastriya Sammelan. The event coincided with the anniversary of the historic conversion of Dalits to Buddhism at the initiative of Babasaheb Ambedkar. State BSP president Bhujbal Singh Ahirwar attended the function as a special guest. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Badshah Singh said the Kashtriya community would play a significant role in favour of the BSP and his party would emerge as a force to reckon with in the 2008 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. The Minister even announced that he would work concertedly till every youth in the State supports his party. The State BSP president said not only Dalits but even Brahmins and Kshatriyas were joining the BSP in large numbers as they were votaries of change. He said the BSP would fulfil the hopes and aspirations of people belonging to different religious or caste groups. After the BSP had swept the UP Assembly elections, it was emphasised at the Madhya Pradesh unit executive meeting of the party held here in the last week of August this year that the UP experiment of social engineering would be repeated in Madhya Pradesh. This meeting was attended by Badshah Singh and three other BSP leaders. They were State Minister Rangnath Mishra, Brajesh Pathak, MP, and Paras Nath Mourya, an OBC leader. These leaders had announced that more leaders from UP would be touring Madhya Pradesh to build up the BSP’s support base in the State before the 2008 Assembly elections. Assembly electionsThe BSP had won only two of the 230 seats in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly in the last Assembly elections. After their resounding success in UP, the BSP leaders are optimistic that with better resources and logistic support from across the border they would be able to expand their base and register electoral gains in districts like Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Shahdol, Morena and Bhind, bordering UP.
