Kiliroor case: summons issued

Kochi: The Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday issued summons to the seven accused in the Kiliroor sex scandal case.

The court ordered them to appear in person before the court on October 29. However, the court directed the CBI to file a separate charge-sheet against Abdul Lathif alias Collector Lathif, 52, and V.K. Devadas, 47, eighth- and ninth- accused, as they had been charged with only Section 212 (harbouring offenders) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The other accused are Omanakutty, 47; Praveen, 24 and Manoj, 19, both conductors attached to the Guruvayur depot of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC); Latha Nair of Mallappalli; Binu alias Kochumon, 30, of Kottayam; Prasanth, 23, conductor at the KSRTC Guruvayur depot; and Somanathan of Kumali.

The charge-sheet said the investigation had revealed that Kochumon had introduced the girl to Latha Nair, who was supposed to get her a role in television serials and albums, in August 2003. It said the victim was taken by the accused to Palani, Guruvayur and Edappally in Ernakulam. The charge-sheet alleged that the girl was gang-raped. When she got pregnant, she was referred to the Medical College. She had been diagnosed as suffering from acute intestinal obstruction. She later died due to infection.
