Budhia back to school

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Six-year-old child marathoner Budhia Singh, who was recently given accommodation in a government-run sports hostel, started another stint as a student in a city-based public school here on Monday.

Budhia’s admission into the D.A.V School, Chandrasekharpur, marked the completion of the first phase of the rehabilitation programme chalked out by the Orissa government after the child passed through several turbulent months recently.

The marathon prodigy remained out of school after he parted ways with his erstwhile coach, Biranchi Das, a couple of months ago. Mr. Das had got Budhia admitted in the BJEM School here.

The D.A.V School authorities have not decided which class would be suited to the child.

“The child can only identify letters, which is much below the standard as compared to his age. We have deputed one nursery teacher to assess his capability,” spokesperson of the school Prakash Panigrahi said.
