Run over by bus

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A rashly driven DTC bus hit a Police Control Room (PCR) jeep and then crushed a 45-year-old vendor under its wheels at Aman Vihar here on Monday before coming to a halt inside a Delhi Development Authority park.

It all happened around 5 in the evening when the bus plying between Qutub Road and the Old Delhi railway station rammed into the PCR van, dragging it for some distance and crushing Raghubir who was standing at the Begumpur bus stand. The bus then crashed into the park and came to a halt.

Raghubir was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The bus has been impounded and driver Roshan arrested on charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

“The driver lost control of the bus apparently due to brake failure. The real cause for the accident would be known only after a mechanical inspection of the vehicle,” said a police officer.
