Sushi shooed out of food festival menu
A Japanese food festival without sushi? The organisers of the recently concluded Japanese food festival held at VJT Hall in the city felt that the most famous Japanese delicacy, made of vinegared rice and topped with ingredients including fish (cooked or raw) and vegetables would be too al
ien to the taste buds of Malayalis. “We were a bit apprehensive of whether people here would accept the dish,” said S. Ratnakumaran, president, Alumni Society of Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship of Japan, which organised the festival.
So sushi was substituted with rice, chicken and vegetable curry, prepared in Japanese style.
Straight from Japan
All the ingredients were flown in from Japan, according to the organisers. “The response we received from the public was quite overwhelming,” added Mr. Ratnakumaran.
