Achievement: Pradipta Patra, the winner of the Cadence Design Contest. Bangalore: “I am happy and I have not had the time to think about what I am going to do with the prize money,” said Pradipta Patra, who recently won the Cadence Design Contest. Mr. Patra designed a chip that enables consumer electronics to be energy efficient — a chip that he single-handedly designed and manufactured. His design was among the 120 entries judged by a panel of individuals from the industry and academia. He won the prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh for his design. “I got to know that I won the award only two weeks ago,” he said. On what inspired him to design the chip, he said: “In today’s environment, energy consumption is increasing, making it imperative for growing economies to work on increasing efficiency. I worked on this design for close to two years. I entered the contest to get some sort of feedback on my work, not with an intention of winning.” “The contest was a great experience. I do not quite know what the future holds for me,” said Mr. Patra.
