A welfare initiative
Karnataka Bureau
BANGALORE: In what may be a small relief to harassed workers of the garment industry, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is planning to form a Foundation for Labour Welfare. AEPC Joint Director R. Balaji told The Hindu that the foundation has started its activities in New Delhi already, and it will be extended to other parts of the country, including Bangalore.
It has been established with the objective to work for the welfare of the personnel employed in the apparel industry and trade and their families, especially in the field of health, general economic uplift and standard of living.
Besides, it will also organise, establish and implement programmes and projects for manpower development, skill upgrading and better health management of workers.
