Nagercoil: The process of summary revision poll rolls will begin next month and continue up to January 11 next, according to Chief Electoral Officer N. Naresh Gupta.
Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that 97 per cent of voters had already taken photo identity cards in Kanyakumari district, 96 per cent of voters in Tirunelveli and 94 per cent of voters in Tuticorin districts.
The state recorded 95 per cent in connection with taking photo identity cards. Steps would be taken to achieve 100 per cent at the earliest. To a question he said that though the presence of photo identity card was mandatory, voters having identity cards and other proofs prescribed by the Election Commission would be allowed to cast their votes in future.
Regarding renewal of photo identity cards, the Chief Electoral Officer said that though it was meant to cast votes during elections, it was not necessary to renew the cards. However, steps had already been taken to change the residential address, if any.
Regarding re-inclusion of a few Assembly constituencies, he said that that matter would be done by the de-limitation committee.
Earlier, he held a discussion with S.J. Cheru, G. Prasad and R. Palaniandi, Collectors of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts respectively and other higher officials in connection with summary revision of electoral list.
