Chacko’s wife’s plea to clergy
Staff Reporter
Kochi: The wife of deceased CPI(M) leader Mathai Chacko, Mercy Chacko, has requested Church leaders to desist from portraying him as a religious person.
She said in a press release here on Tuesday that her husband was a communist till his death.
He was a communist even before marriage. “Our wedding was not according to religious rites. Versions to the contrary are not in accordance with facts. Our elder son’s baptism was done without the knowledge of my husband. We do not lead a religious life now and our children have not taken the first holy communion,” she said.
Mrs. Chacko said attempts by some quarters to portray her husband as a believer should not have been made, since he is no more.
