dated October 17, 1957: Additional carriages

Mr. Jagjivan Ram, Union Railway Minister, launching the 200th coach of the Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, on October 15, announced that instructions had been issued to introduce a second shift in railway workshops to build more coaches and thus overcome the difficulties felt in passenger traffic. He suggested the institution of awards and prizes for the best worker in railway workshops to increase efficiency and step up production. Mr. Sadagopan, Chief Administrative Officer, remarked that they had already taken preliminary action for the recruitment and technical training of the additional personnel required for manning a second shift and for the procurement of additional raw material for the increased output.
