dated October 17, 1957: Hearing postponed

The Supreme Court on October 16 postponed hearing of a batch of petitions filed by several newspaper establishments and the Press Trust of India Limited, challenging the validity of the Working Journalists (conditions of service and miscellaneous provisions) Act and the decisions of the Wage Board for Working Journalists, from October 29 to December 3. An adjournment of the hearing was sought by the Press Trust of India and the Hindustan Times Limited, on the plea that it would not be possible to complete the printing of the relevant documents by October 29, the date originally fixed for hearing of the petitions.
