Corrections and clarifications

The dateline of the lead story “Bush calls up Manmohan” (October 16, 2007, page 1) was given as Abjua (Nigeria). It should have been Abuja. Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria.

In “Corrections and Clarifications” (October 16, 2007), the name of Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria was given as Dinesh Kaneria. His name is also Dinesh Parabha Shanker Kaneria, or Dinesh Kineria, but he is popularly known as Danish Kaneria. The Pakistan Cricket Board website lists his official name as Danish Parabha Shanker Kaneria.

S. Pushpavanam, Tiruchi, quoted in the Readers’ Editor’s column “Online and Off Line” — More on balance and predilections” (October 15, 2007), had said: “The headline on Page 1 of the October 2 edition [of The Hindu] regarding the judge’s outburst … is incorrect and inappropriate. The caption gives the impression that the judge was being ruled by emotion rather than guided by reason.” It was wrongly mentioned as “… The caption gives the impression that the judge was being ruled by emotion rather than guided by emotion.” The error is regretted.

In a report “Ashwin stars for Tamil Nadu” (“Sport”, October 16, 2007), the first innings score of Tamil Nadu was missed. Tamil Nadu had scored 250 in its first innings against Hyderabad. Tamil Nadu went on to win the match by two wickets. (The report was on the South Zone under-22 C.K. Nayudu cricket tournament.)

The last paragraph in a report “All eyes on Interlagos as history beckons Hamilton” (“Sport”, October 16, 2007) was: “In the end, the sport’s governing body, the FIA, chose to strip McLaren of its constructors’ points and impose a record $1 million fine rather than penalising Hamilton and his teammate Fernando Alonso.” “$1 million should have been “$100 million”.

It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
