Remembering their sacrifice: A girl saluting the police martyrs memorial in Anantapur on Tuesday. ANANTAPUR: A memorial constructed on the premises of district police headquarters for police martyrs was opened for the public here on Tuesday on the occasion of Police Martyrs Commemorative Week celebrations. The memorial structure was constructed with carved stone pillars recently by spending about Rs. 10 lakh. Anantapur DSP G.S. Karunakar, armed reserve DSP Venkateswarlu and others paid floral tributes to the police martyrs in the district, whose names were inscribed on the plaques arranged in the memorial. A painting competition on the theme ‘My Police Station’ was also conducted for the school children on the occasion. One competition would be organised everyday for schoolchildren as part of the commemoration week till October 21. Meanwhile, the personnel of 14th APSP battalion donated blood on the occasion at a blood donation camp organised on the occasion here. Policemen of the battalion also explained the school students about the functioning of different fire arms used by them. Commandant of the battalion Ch. Rameshbabu, additional commandant K. Rajeswara Rao, assistant commandant Mallikarjuna and others also participated.
