Special gift: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik with his portrait presented by artists on his 61st birthday at a function in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. — BHUBANESWAR: As Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik turned 61 on Tuesday, a number of his Cabinet colleagues and well-wishers visited Naveen Niwas, his residence, in the morning hours to greet him on the occasion. For Mr. Patnaik it was a quiet birthday. He only accepted the bouquets of flowers that the visitors brought for him to wish him a long and healthy life ahead. Among those who arrived early to wish their leader on his birthday was Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro. He was followed by Women and Child Development Minister Pramila Mallik. The Chief Minister, had to please his party workers who came all the way from distant Mayurbhanj district with a birthday cake for him. Mr. Patnaik cut the cake and took a few bites. Many artists also greeted the suave leader when he went to distribute prizes and awards at a workshop on painting at Jayadev Bhavan. Apart from flower bouquets, Mr Patnaik was presented with a nice portrait of him by Chandramani Biswal, secretary of the State Lalit Kala Academy and an artist of repute. Mr. Patnaik also made the organisers of the workshop happy by drawing a sketch of a flower. Patnaik, who was born on October 10, 1946, had joined politics in 1997 after the death of his father and Janata Dal stalwart Biju Patnaik.
