‘Submit crop loss report in a week’

Take up repair of government buildings: Mahishi

Crop loss in Dharwad district put at Rs. 5.77 cr.


GADAG: Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi has directed the officials to complete the survey on crop loss in the flood-affected areas of Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkot districts within a week and submit the report.

Chairing a review meeting on flood relief works at the office of Deputy Commissioner in Gadag on Tuesday, Mr. Mahishi asked the officials to disburse the remaining relief cheques to the affected families within a week.

He directed the officials to immediately take up repair of the government buildings damaged in the floods, and asked the chief executive officers of the zilla panchayats to release 50 per cent of the cost immediately.

Mr. Mahishi told the officials to continue the precautionary steps taken to prevent the spread of epidemics in the flood-affected areas. Revenue Secretary S.M. Jamdar asked the officials to take immediate steps to restore the road connectivity and provide temporary passages in areas where the bridges required major repairs.

Earlier in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Gadag C. Shikha told the meeting that the total loss owing to floods in the district had been put at Rs. 195 crore. The Government had released Rs. 3.9 crore of which Rs. 3.16 crore had been released for relief and rehabilitation work.

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad M.S. Srikar said the floods had caused extensive damage in Navalgund taluk of the district and the loss had been estimated at Rs. 5.62 crore.

A sum of Rs. 1.56 crore had been released for those whose houses were damaged. The recently concluded survey had put the total crop loss in the district at Rs. 5.77 crore, he added. Mr. Srikar said Rs. 2.12 crore had been released for 47 repair and development works.

Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot G.N. Naik said that 23,125 people were shifted to safer places in the district after the floods. Crop loss of Rs. 50.62 crore had been reported from the district and loss to property had been estimated at Rs. 17.95 crore, he said. The loss to roads had been estimated at Rs. 4.02 crore.
