Lucknow: In a bid to develop an international character, the Lucknow University is planning to fill 20 per cent of its post-graduate seats with foreign students from the next academic session. The university will be appointing teachers from different parts of the country besides encouraging students from foreign countries and others states to take admission in the university to give the university a national and international character, Vice-Chancellor Prof. R. P. Singh said. The decision was taken keeping in mind recent resolution passed in the National Conference on Development of Higher Education, Expansion, Inclusion and Excellence organised by University Grants Commission (UGC) in New Delhi recently. The university is also planning to decentralise administrative functioning by giving more powers to the head of departments, Mr. Singh said. Plans are also afoot to expand the semester system and to encourage departments to conduct examinations on their own. Presently many departments have yearly examination system. The V-C said that he was in favour of introducing grading system in place of awarding marks. The system would lessen pressure on students and they can concentrate on other fields also, he said adding the system could be introduced from the next academic session after discussion with faculty members and approval by academic and executive council of the university.- PTI
