Unwarranted Weather: An old lady prevents herself and her grandson from sudden rain at Sukhana Lake in Chandigarh on Tuesday. An unusual rain and thunderstorm have brought the temperature down in the town. Chandigarh: Heavy rains lashed Chandigarh and parts of Punjab on Tuesday evening bringing down mercury levels considerably. The rains here were followed by cool breeze, which brought down the mercury under 25 degrees Celsius. However, the day temperature here settled at 32.4 degrees. Reports of rains were also received from a few places in Punjab, including Ludhiana, Patiala and Mohali. The maximum temperatures in the region on Tuesday settled close to the normal range. The highs at Ambala (32.6 C), Hisar (33.4 C), Karnal (30.6 C), Amritsar (32.4 C), Ludhiana (32.6 C) and Patiala (32.8 C) were within normal range. The Meteorological department has forecast light to moderate rain or snowfall at many places in Himachal Pradesh while light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana over the next two days. Hailstorm or thunder squall with wind speed exceeding 45 kmph are likely at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, the officials said.- PTI
