TTD returns ‘donated’ land to Tirupati MLA

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: The TTD returned to the Tirupati MLA, M. Venkatramana, the 2.18 acres of land in Nagari town which he had last week bequeathed to the Devasthanams in his capacity as holding the ‘power of attorney’ over the site.

The reported surrender of the land together with the related documents by the TTD to the MLA follows a survey by its revenue officials which revealed that a number of buildings were already existing on the bequeathed land which would eventually make it difficult for the TTD to take clean possession of the land.

Strong objection

However, the MLA, Mr Venkatramana, has taken strong objection to the TTD deciding to return the land, more so when there were several instances in the past when disputed lands bequeathed to the TTD by their frustrated owners were taken possession of subsequently through legal interventions by the TTD management.

He cited the specific case of a huge site right in the heart of the Tirupati town where a cinema theatre existed for more than decades and how the TTD through a prolonged legal battle secured ownership of the prime site on the basis of the title deeds passed on to it by the dejected owner of the site.

TD blamed

He blamed the TDP and some vested interests in the TTD for kicking up a needless controversy over the issue merely to malign him. His rivals alleged that he bequeathed land over which he had no right nor any ‘authority.’

Another reason for the MLA’s ire was that this unseemly row should erupt when it was actually at his instance that the State Government released a G.O recently waiving registration charges on the lands donated to the TTD.

It was to give effect to the G.O that the MLA donated the land (now under controversy) to the TTD at a special function recently.
