Says South Telangana has all rights to utilise Krishna waters WANAPARTHY (Mahbubnagar): Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhara Rao announced that the Jurala High-Level Canal would be built as would Lower Jurala reservoir across river Krishna, to divert water to meet the needs of entire South Telangana, once a separate State was formed. Addressing a mammoth gathering called “Palamoor Praja Sadassu” in Wanaparthy on Tuesday evening, he said that South Telangana region had all rights to utilise Krishna waters as it fell in the river basin. Contrary to this fact, the present Congress and erstwhile Telugu Desam Governments had tried to take water to Rayalaseema and the Penna basin, he said. The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government he alleged, was contemplating two more barrages across Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers and divert about 35 tmc (thousand million cubic) feet of water which would be detrimental to South Telangana region, including Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda. There was enthusiastic response from the audience whenever he lashed out at Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Opposition Leader N. Chandrababu Naidu. He alleged that both the Congress and TDP Governments had failed to close the illegal sluices at Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme Project, due to which the project was not of much use to the district. However, both had tried their best to divert more than the allocated waters of Tungabhadra and Krishna waters to Rayalaseema region. He said that the next elections would be the last battle for Telangana people and urged them to vote for a party committed to the formation of the separate State with which TRS would be able to bag all the 107 Assembly and 15 Lok Sabha seats. “If we capture all the seats, both in Assembly and Parliament, there will not be any hurdles in achieving a separate State in the present coalition era”, he said. Mr. Rao announced that the first Government Order that would be signed after a separate State was formed would be that of including Boya community into Scheduled Tribes. Earlier, R. Vidyasagar Rao, former chief engineer-irrigation and Jayashankar, former vice-chancellor, Kakatiya University, addressed the gathering, while S. Niranjan Reddy, TRS state general secretary welcomed.
