HYDERABAD: The stand-off between TDP leader Nannapaneni Rajakumari and Mahila Congress president Ganga Bhavani took a curious turn on Tuesday with a Congress worker alleging that the former’s supporters beat her up. Congress activist Sumati Mohan, who is facing charge of intimidating Ms. Rajakumari and trespassing into her house along with her co-workers led by MLC Ganga Bhavani, lodged a complaint making this new allegation. The Humayunnagar police registered a case against the unidentified supporters of Ms. Rajakumari under sections 324 (assault), 504 (intentional insult leading to breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code following her complaint. Ms. Mohan walked into the police station even as the MLC and 14 of the party activists surrendered before the police in the trespass case. She charged that the TDP leader’s supporters attacked her with sticks when she went to Rajakumari’s house in Masab Tank five days ago along with co-workers. They were protesting against Ms. Rajakumari’s remarks against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “They hit me with sticks resulting in injuries. I was admitted to a corporate hospital later,” the police quoted her as saying. To substantiate her charges, she produced some papers pertaining to medical treatment extended to her. Asifnagar ACP V. Mahender Reddy said the police would probe the allegations and if they are found to be false, action would be initiated. Before her surrender to police, Ms. Bhavani and other Mahila Congress leaders called on the Chief Minister. Speaking to reporters later, Ms. Bhavani said that Dr. Reddy had advised them to devote their time to party work instead of reacting to criticism from other parties.sked whether any show cause notice was served on her by the party for raiding Ms. Rajakumari’s house, she said no one had asked for any explanation. “As a sincere party worker, I will resign, the moment party leadership wants me to quit the president’s post,” she added.
