Bangalore: The National Geographic Channel has been on the prowl. In its “quest for the best,” it recently organised Nat Geo Junior Hunt 2 to look for India’s “superkid”. The winners of the city finals, Madhu Prita (fifth standard, Delhi Public School, North) and S. Balaji (sixth standard, National Public School) will now represent Bangalore at the national round. A “superkid” , according to the channel’s definition, is someone who is “curious, adventurous, articulate, energetic and smart, in short an all-rounder”. The hunt spanned 10 cities covering 400 reputed schools and received a good response with nearly 4,00,000 kids between 11 to 14 years signing on for the first round. Out of these, 500 kids in each city made it to the city finals. The city finals in Bangalore were divided into two batches of 250 children each — Junior (fifth and sixth standard) and Senior (seventh and eighth standard). A number of activities were designed to test different aspects of the participants’ personality. What awaits Madhu and Balaji is, by Nat Geo’s admission, “a gruelling set of tests”. The final winner, the Nat Geo Junior will have his/her education funded, get a chance to host Nat Geo Junior shows on the channel for three months, and will win a bunch of exciting prizes.
