Assistance distributed to SHGs

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 150 self-help groups (SHGs) based at Pozhiyur and Uchakkada were given assistance to the tune of Rs.1.50 crore at two separate functions organised by the Uchakkada branch of Bank of India on Monday.

The loans are to be used for various income-generation activities by the SHGs, organised under the Neyyatinkara Integrated Development Society (NIDS) and the Trivandrum Social Service Society (TSSS).

The Bank of India, in association with NIDS, has taken up a dairy project at Neyyatinkara under which the beneficiaries will be provided with two cows each. The project, with a total outlay of Rs.15 crore, is aimed at uplift of 3,000 families in the area.

Fr. G. Christudas, Fr. B. Alysius and Parassala MLA Selvaraj were present at the function.

As many as 52 SHGs were provided bank loans amounting to Rs.50 lakh. The Bank has already extended an aid of Rs.28 lakh to 30 SHGs in the Paruthiyoor and Pozhiyoor areas.
