KANCHEEPURAM: The Kancheepuram Town Old (East) Railway Station Protection Committee has called upon the Vellore district administration to help Southern Railway complete electrification of the Thakkolam-Arakonam section quickly.
A resolution urging the administration to expedite the process of issuing land acquisition notification was passed at a committee meeting held here recently.
Southern Railway, which has already received the fund for the project, is not able to carry out the track electrification work in the absence of an official notification to be issued by the district administration, an official spokesperson said.
The electrification project, once completed, would help formation of a circular EMU service route, Chennai Beach to Chennai Beach via. Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Arakonam, Avadi and Chennai Central. It would benefit commuters from rural pockets in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts and from Chennai, the spokesperson said.
