S.R. Bommai’s humanistic approach comes in for praise BANGALORE: Ego clash among top leaders of the party is destroying unity in the Janata Dal (Secular), senior party leader M.P. Prakash has said. He was speaking at a meeting held to condole the death of the former Chief Minister S.R. Bommai by the Vishwa Kannadigara Vedike here on Tuesday. Mr. Prakash said that top leaders of the then Janata Party such as Morarji Desai, Charan Singh and Devi Lal had taken a resolution in front of the Gandhi Samadhi in New Delhi that they would maintain unity when the party would come to power. But ego clash among top leaders had continued till date, he said. The late Ramakrishna Hegde had warned R.V. Deshpande, P.G.R. Sindhia and Jeevaraj Alva that they should maintain unity in the party, he said. DemocracyMr. Prakash and the former Minister Leelavathi R. Prasad lauded S.R. Bommai’s fight against the dismissal of his Government and his getting a landmark judgment from the Supreme Court. It had helped in preserving democracy and putting an end to the trend of summary dismissal of governments. The former Minister P.G.R. Sindhia wanted the State Government to name the proposed law university after Bommai. All leaders who paid tributes to Bommai said that his humanistic approach had guided him in taking the right administrative decisions. Mr. Sindhia said that Bommai had not compromised on principles even when some people toppled his government. V.P. Baligar, Principal Secretary, Department of Infrastructure Development, who served as Bommai’s personal secretary when the latter served as Human Resource Development Minister, spoke. Mr. Baligar and Sumathindra Nadig, poet, recalled how Bommai had recognised talent among writers. Trishulpani Patel, son of the late J.H. Patel, and M.P. Nadagouda, MLC, also spoke. P.S. Prakash, former MLA welcomed the gathering. A minute’s silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
