BJP behind attacks: Raman Pillai

Staff Reporter

Says it was clear from the conversation of his attackers

KOZHIKODE: Kerala Janapaksham president K. Raman Pillai has alleged that the State leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the recent attacks on him and other leaders of the party.

Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Raman Pillai said it was clear from the conversation of the miscreants who attacked him in a lodge in Kasaragod that BJP State President P.K. Krishnadas was behind the attacks.

Demanding the resignation of the BJP State president, Mr. Raman Pillai said Mr. Krishnadas and some others had been implicated by the commission that had been appointed by the BJP to enquire into the reasons for the defeat of the BJP candidate in a Lok Sabha byelection in Thiruvananthapuram and the erosion in the party’s vote bank.

‘Fall in BJP votes’

Circulating copies of the report, Mr. Raman Pillai said the percentage of BJP votes had come down during the byelection compared to the 1987 general elections.

Besides him, Janapaksham office-bearers C. Krishnan, K.M. Varghese and Mohanan were attacked by BJP-hired goondas, he said adding that the BJP had assumed criminal tendencies now.

Warning to BJP

He warned that if the BJP continued with such acts the repercussions will be grave.

“BJP’s systematic threats and blackmail tactics will not break the Janapaksham. The reported remarks of Mr. Krishnadas about me are ridiculous,” he said.

Convention

The Janapaksham will declare its proposed programme on increasing agriculture production in the State at a convention in Ernakulam on October 21. He said the government should focus its attention on the deplorable condition of roads. Instead, peripheral issues drew the attention of the leaders. Religious belief was an individual’s prerogative, he added.
