Call for feasibility study on four-laning of ECR

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The State Government has asked the Tamil Nadu Road Development Corporation (TNRDC) to prepare a feasibility study on the four-laning of the East Coast Road (ECR).

The TNRDC is awaiting a formal letter to call for an expert consultant to begin work, its officials said here on Monday. K.R. Viswanathan, Director-in-Charge, TNRDC, said that the decision to widen the ECR was taken at a high-level meeting last week. Highways Department officials participated in the meet. The review meeting discussed the large number of accidents that took place on the ECR, he said.

Once the formal letter is received, the report, which would include details such as estimate, would be prepared. Work would also begin on the Detailed Project Report, which would include the extent of land that needed to be acquired. Work is currently progressing on the link road between the ECR and the IT Corridor. The main carriageway is expected to be ready in March, he said.
