Udhagamandalam: A move by the police to remove black flags from various parts of the town created mild tension on Tuesday. The flags had been hoisted after a demonstration was organised under the aegis of the Nilgiris Roads Protection Committee here on Sunday in protest against the inordinate delay in repairing the Mettupalayam-Ooty-Gudalur national highway. The members of the committee, including K. Vijayan and Kuttikrishnan, had objected to the removal of the flags by pointing out that they had been hoisted only to reflect the frustration of the people. However, the police had cautioned them that if they prevented them from removing the flags they would be forced to arrest them.
