Kozhikode: The committee formed to campaign against death sentence has sought the help of MLAs to support its demand for “protection of rights of remand prisoners and those serving jail term.” It has urged the MLAs to defeat the proposed amendments to the laws that “would deprive prisoners their basic rights” when these are taken up in the Assembly. The panel has taken strong exception to the move to amend the CrPC that would do away with the provision for producing the accused before the court.
