NEW DELHI: The U.S.-based aircraft engine manufacturer, Pratt and Whitney (P&W), is expecting to generate revenues of about $30 million from the infotech and spare parts manufacturing business in India. “We are expecting to generate revenues of $30 million in businesses relating to infotech and spares. We expect this number to double or more than double in the next three to five years,” Pratt and Whitney (P&W) President, Steve Finger, said here on Tuesday. P&W’s engines power not only military aircraft such as F-16s and fifth-generation fighters such as F-22s and F-35s, but also civilian planes such as the largest aircraft, Airbus A-380s, turboprop ATR aircraft and helicopters. It has also been selected by NASA’s (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) space shuttle replacement programme. In India, about 285 P&W engines are fitted in aircraft owned by Air India, Kingfisher,Airlines, Air Deccan, JetLite, GoAir and IndiGo and other air cargo firms, besides the SARAS project of the National Aeronautical Laboratory.
