Six records fall by the wayside

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Six new records were set on the second day of the State School Aquatic meet at the Water Works swimming pool here on Wednesday.

For the second consecutive day, wards from the sports hostel dominated the pool as they accounted for five of the records set on the penultimate day.

Once again, it was H. Priyanka who salvaged some pride for general schools as she set her second record of the meet in senior girls 400m IM.

R. Rajeev of CSH, Naniyode erased one of the longest records from the books as he set a new mark in senior boys 100m breaststroke.

Rajeev clocked 1:14.36 to break Shaji Joseph’s 1:15.81 set in 1989.

The other records of the day were set by Arun Kumar in senior boys 100m breast stroke (1:20.05), M. Thofeek in 100m freestyle (1:02.62) in sub-junior boys category; Arun Raj in 200m back stroke (2:32.00) in junior boys section and R. Rahul in 100m butterfly (1:09.34) in sub-junior boys category.
