PUDUKOTTAI: The M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation will conduct a survey for assessing the needs of the villagers in and around Kallalangudi in Annavasal block.
The survey, which will cover education, health-care, agriculture, horticulture and livestock, will be a base document for providing various facilities in these villages, Foundation Project Co-ordinator R. Rajkumar said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural of the Village Knowledge Centre (VKC) in Kallalangudi village on Wednesday, he said that the survey would be conducted next month in about 15 villages in and around Kallalangudi.
With the region accounting for a large number of farmers, particularly jasmine-cultivators, the VKC would facilitate them with crop protection techniques. A cross-section of jasmine-growers complained that the crop withered shortly after flowering and sought remedial measures, he said.

The KVC has been set up in nine villages including Melapatti, Parambur, Malaikkudipatti, Meivazhisalai and Mazhiyur. Demand-driven programmes were being implemented in the VKC areas. Lead Bank Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, C. Sudhakar inaugurated the VKC. Village panchayat president R. Rathinavel; C.
