CHITTAPUR (NIZAMABAD Dt): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy assured farmers that he will use his office to exert pressure on the Centre to declare Rs.1,000 as MSP per quintal of paddy. "I am trying to prevail upon the Central Government that Rs.625 per quintal which was announced recently will not be sufficient," he said. Addressing a well attended public meeting after participating in the house warming ceremony under the first phase of the Indiramma scheme at this village in Balkonda mandal on Wednesday, he reiterated that his Government was pro-farmer and it would not hesitate to do anything for the farming community. "We will always go to the rescue of farmers," he declared. Lok AdalatIn response to Assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy’s request, the Chief Minister agreed to set up a Lok Adalat to settle the payment of compensation to farmers who lost their lands due to the construction of the Sriramsagar Project. The Lok Adalat would be set up as early as possible, he added. Mr. Suresh Reddy presided over the meeting. Ministers R. Damodar Reddy and D. Srinivas and MLAs S. Santhosh Reddy, B. Govardhan, S. Gangaram and P. Sudarshan Reddy, MLCs D. Rajeswar, R. Venkatrami Reddy, ZP Chairperson G. Anitha and Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu spoke at the meeting. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy said the Rs.2 per kg rice scheme was temporarily put off and would be introduced after four to five months. The decision to reintroduce the scheme was taken in view of the inability of the poorer sections to pay Rs.5.25 per kg for ration rice.
