KARIMNAGAR: Zilla Parishad chairman Aarepalli Mohan on Wednesday unveiled the bronze statue of slain sub-inspector of police U. Sanjeev at his native Manakondur mandal headquarters. U. Sanjeev, the 1991 batch SI when was working in Matwada police station in Warangal district, was killed in a fierce exchange of fire with the Maoists naxalites in Mukunuru forests of Eturunagaram mandal on March 11, 2002. As part of Police commemoration week celebrations, the Sanjeev charitable trust had installed the bronze statue of the SI in the village. Incidentally, this is the first statue of an SI being installed in the State. Tributes paidTributes were paid to the sub-inspector of police by the speakers on the occasion. Hyderabad city police DCP (crimes) Dr. R. S. Praveen Kumar, who was closely associated with the SI when he was working in Warangal district as OSD, had become very emotional and bought tears into his eyes and ended his speech abruptly hailing the services of the SI. Warangal SP Sowmya Mishra said that the State police had lost a great sub-inspector of police. She said that Sanjeev was role model for entire Police Department for his dedicated and friendly approach towards the society and needy persons. She said that the Warangal police were taking inspiration from the SI and striving for the upliftment of the society. Proud of associationKarimnagar range DIG N. Chandramouli said that he was proud to be associated with the police department and taking part in the unveiling of statue. He said that the people of the region have installed the statue because of his association and concern for the society. Presiding over the meeting, Karimnagar SP Y. Gangadhar said that several policemen had sacrificed their lives for the cause of peace in the society. He said that in Karimnagar district about 48 police personnel died in the hands of extremism. Karimnagar rural CI N. Malla Reddy, Manakondir SI D Bhoomaiah, Sanjeev charitable trust chairperson Maheshwari and others hailed the services of the SI.
