Four Indians in quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Four Indian boxers — P. Narjit Singh (54 kg), Mohinder Thapa (81 kg), Thoi Tho Singh (60 kg) and D. Bhagyarajan (69 kg) — advanced to the quarterfinals, while the 2007 SAF Games silver medallist Sanjay Kolte (48 kg), Amarjit Singh (75 kg) exited in the fourth CISM Military World Games here on Wednesday.

It was a day to remember for Thoi Thoi Singh, based at the Artillery Centre (Golconda), as he scored an 18-16 win on points over Ivan Yachmenev of Russia.

Loves ambience

He simply loves the ambience at the venue, where he won a gold in the senior Nationals. “Initially, I was taken aback with some heavy blows and even felt giddy. But slowly, I played it safe and recouped my energy levels to put up a much better show,” said the 28-year-old, another product of Army Institute of Sports in Pune under the tutelage of Cuban coach Louis Enrique.
