Music of all kinds

KOCHI: It is a collection of all kinds of music at the Navaratri Music Fair at the Women’s Association Hall here till October 22. Starting with traditional prayers, one can pick from a variety ranging from classical to pop.

In the devotional section, which has a big market during Navaratri and the coming Mandalam season, there are complete packages in a series of stotras and stutis, new albums in Malayalam and also CDs on epics, such as the Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita and folklores.

The fair, in its fifth year, has a collection of CDs for music therapy too, which are said to be beneficial for a number of ailments, such as cardiovascular diseases, depression and sleeplessness. There is also a choice for people looking for alternative therapeutic methods, such as reiki, yoga, art of living and ayurveda. A number of CDs from the Osho Foundation are also available.

The Carnatic classical section is full with those of a number of new artistes, apart from maestros who include Semmangudi Sreenivasa Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, D.K. Pattamal and M.S. Subbulakshmi.

Those of Sudha Raghunathan, Nityashree Mahadevan, P. Unnikrishnan and others of the younger lots are also available. There is a treasure of instrumental and fusion music too.
