Centre of Excellence status for university department

PUDUCHERRY: The Pondicherry University’s Bioinformatics Centre has been accorded “Centre of Excellence Status” by the Department of Information Technology , Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India.

A release from the Pondicherry University said here on Wednesday that the department had extended a grant of Rs 3.69 crore to the centre for skill development through introduction of new modular courses and for undertaking cutting-edge research works.

The grant would be used to introduce new courses to students and faculty members.

The course would be introduced to research fellows in the disciplines of molecular sequence analysis, functional genomics, molecular modelling, drug designing and computer science, the release added.
