BANGALORE: A seven-member gang allegedly raped a 28-year-old mother of two at her home on the outskirts of the city on Magadi Road on Tuesday night after locking her husband in a room. The police said the incident took place between 11 p.m. and midnight at the secluded house of a labourer couple at Kodihalli Colony in Gollarahatti. Soon after the incident, the residents of the area traced three of accused and thrashed them. The three suffered serious injuries and have been hospitalised, the police said. The arrested youths, Kariya, Sreenivasa and Dharma, and their four accomplices are in the age group of 18 to 20. All of them are residents of the same locality and some of them are known to the victim’s family, the police said. Angered by the attack on the woman, the residents of Byadarahalli, Gollarahatti and surrounding areas staged a demonstration on Wednesday morning and blocked Magadi Road for some time. The police chased away the protesters after they refused to disperse. According to the police, around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, two youths knocked on the door of the victim’s house. When she opened the door, the inebriated youths asked her for money. When her husband came out and asked them to leave, they picked a quarrel with him. Their five friends arrived there and all of them barged into to the house. They assaulted the man and locked him in a room and later, all the seven youths allegedly raped the woman, the police said. Two killedTwo persons, including a software engineer, were killed in as many road accidents in the city on Tuesday. The police said Praveen Kumar (27), an engineer with Infosys, was killed after he rammed his motorcycle against the median on Hosur Road, off Koodlu Gate, around 11.30 p.m. Praveen, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to St. John’s hospital and he was declared brought dead, the police said. He was returning to his Madivala residence from the office. In the other incident, Haneef (28) was killed on the spot after a BMTC bus hit his motorcycle on Bannerghatta Road, near Arakere, around 4 p.m. Haneef’s wife, Mahalakshmi, who was riding pillion with him, was injured. The couple were residents of Janata Colony on Bannerghatta Road, the police said. MurderedAn unidentified man was hacked to death in Yelahanka police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said the body of the man aged around 35 years was found at GKVK Colony on Jakkur Road. The assailants had slit his throat and stabbed him at least 10 times. The police said the assailants had apparently chased and attacked him. DVDs seizedThe Silver Jubilee Park police on Monday raided two shops on S.P. Road and seized 1,443 pirated DVDs of Tamil, Hindi, English and Telugu movies, together worth Rs. 3 lakh. The police arrested two persons in this connection.
