VILLUPURAM: A cleanliness drive was launched at the Villupuram Railway Junction here on Wednesday under the supervision of Ramasubbu, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi division.
Mr. Ramasubbu said the Railway Board had declared 2007 as the ‘Year of cleanliness.’
Therefore, the authorities launched the campaign in a phased manner and mechanised cleaning was being undertaken .
High-pressure water jets were deployed to clean the bogies, platforms and waiting rooms. The mechanised cleaning process was entrusted to contractors. Railway officials distributed pamphlets highlighting the importance of keeping the stations and bogies clean.
