Special revision of voters’ list from Monday

PUDUCHERRY: The Elections Department has announced the schedule for the Special Summary Revision of Voters’ List-2008 in the Union Territory for fresh inclusion of electors who turn 18 on Januray 1, 2008.

According to a press release issued by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, the draft voters’ list shall be published in all polling station locations and in addition at the Office of the Electoral Registration Officers on October 22 and from that date electors can file claims and objections till November 6.

The public can also file online applications by visiting the website www.ceopondicherry.nic.in to file their claims.

The public can approach the respective polling station or nearest post office for obtaining the forms and submitting their claims and objections.

The Electoral Registration Officer will summon the applicant for inclusion of his/her name on a particular day and if his/her name is proposed to be included, he/she will be photographed on that day itself and issued a token. The Voter Identity Card will be issued after the final publication of voters List on production of the token.

The final voters list will be published on January 10, 2008.

In the case of people who possess the voter identity card but their names are not found in the voters’ list, the Joint Chief Electoral Officer said according to the law the names of citizens who are ordinarily resident in the concerned area only will be included in the voters list.

The names of voters who have shifted to different areas will be deleted.

Therefore, whenever a voter shifts his residence, she/he has to apply to the Electoral Registration Officer of the new area by giving details of his previous address.
