BERHAMPUR: The Clinton Foundation will install a CD-4 machine at the only Anti Retro-Viral Therapy (ART) centre in Orissa operating on MKCG Medical College campus. The centre, which is operating in the most HIV-prone district of Orissa, was handicapped as it did not have a CD-4 machine. The machine counts the T4 cells in blood to ascertain the immunity level of a HIV positive person. Speaking to The Hindu, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrasekhar Sahu said that Union Health Minister A. Ramdoss had agreed to allot one of the seven CD-4 machines being donated to India by the Clinton Foundation to Orissa. The machine would obviously be installed at the only ART centre in the State in MKCG Medical College Hospital. Due to lack of CD-4 machine, the treatment of HIV positive persons registering at the ART centre was getting delayed. Every month around 20 samples were being sent from the centre to Kolkata for the T4 cell count.
