PUDUKOTTAI: Collector D. Uthirakumaran on Thursday said the administration would create awareness among the rural people about the salient features of the Protection of Tanks and Eviction of Encroachment Act 2007, which came into effect from October 1.
Presiding over a meeting at the Collectorate here, Mr. Uthirakumaran said awareness would be created through distribution of pamphlets. The Act was applicable to the water bodies, which was under the control of the Public Works Department and being maintained by it.
Based on the original records of the Revenue Department, the surveyors should map the original boundaries of the tanks and identify encroachments. The Public Works Department (PWD) should fix boundary stones at the boundary of the water bodies. The PWD should serve notice to the encroachers. If the encroachments were not removed within 21 days, the PWD officials should remove them by taking the help of law enforcers, the Collector said.
The cost for removing the encroachments should be realised from the encroachers.
District Revenue Officer G. Prakasam and PWD and revenue officials participated.
