Programme on dance

Kozhikode: A special dance programme ‘Ashtapadhiyattom’ will be staged at the Kathakali Vidyalayam at Cheliyam near here on Mahanavarathri on October 20. The programme is being directed by Kathakali guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair.

Kalakshetram Ragna is training under the guru for the three-hour programme. Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair, 92, has infused elements of Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kerala Nadanam and Kathakali in Ashtapadhiyattam to create a perfect balance of these art forms. Kannur Seethalakshmi, dancer and disciple of guru, had staged it 50 years before.

Karimpuzha Radha who sang for the dance then will be back in action for this programme. The guru will be initiating children into the world of arts at 9 a.m. (Vidyarambam day) on October 21.
