Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesperson M.M. Hassan has alleged that the Electricity Department headed by Electricity Minister A.K. Balan was trying to sabotage the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the SNC Lavalin deal. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Hassan said the CBI could recover only 13 of the 45 files during its examination in the department. The KPCC viewed with concern news reports that the crucial note written by the former Finance Secretary S. Varadachari was among the missing documents. Mr. Hassan referred to earlier news reports that the Chief Minister’s office had blocked handing over relevant files to the CBI and said that with Mr. Balan as Electricity Minister it was doubtful whether the CBI would be able to lay its hands on crucial files. He wanted the Chief Minister to be bold enough to take away the Electricity portfolio from him. Mr. Hassan alleged that CPI (M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had raked up the controversy related to the unction administration to the late Mathai Chacko in order to divert the public attention from the SNC Lavalin case.
